Where once a horse barn stood, now stands a 750 square foot quilting studio for craftspeople to gather & create.
During a severe tropical storm a large tree fell on the abandoned horse barn, destroying the structure. Our client had maxed out her studio within the home, and was in need of a large studio space where multiple quilters could work together. To reference their connection to Maine as well as blend in with the natural surroundings, cedar shakes clad the building as well as cedar columns and front porch decking. Inside the space, we allowed for maximum natural lighting from clearstory windows. American elm trims out the upper windows and cross beams that hold the track lighting and electrical pulleys. Barn door hardware allows sliding panels clad with chalkboard and magnetic marker board conceal the storage bin closets.
