Gerard Kellas
Site Supervisor, Craftsman

Gerard Kellas joined the Triple Aught team in 2013. Originally from Virginia Beach, VA, Gerard attended St. Presbyterian College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in biology. His interest in horticulture and travel lead him to Dorf Tirol, Italy in the Alps foothills where he worked for several years as farm manager of a 4 acre vineyard which featured a winery and also hosted study abroad programs. He returned to the US in 2003 for a summer internship at Virginia Tech where he pursued grapevine research. Continuing in the viniculture industry, Gerard worked for several more years at a northern Virginia vineyard and winery until he moved to Hillsborough, NC in 2009. His farming experience led him to a local organic farm where he did carpentry for a custom home being built on the property. Enjoying the growing process of plants as well as the building process of construction, Gerard quickly learned carpentry as well as skilled craftsmanship.

Matthew Carter
NABCEP Certified Solar Specialist

Matthew Carter first began developing construction and renewable energy skills while building a yurt, outdoor kitchen, and various experimental solar hot water and energy systems on an organic avocado ranch in Carpinteria, CA in 2009.  After several years doing farming, carpentry, cabinetmaking, and furniture building work, as well as a stint in a PhD program doing ecological modeling and teaching geographical analysis methods, he began working full-time as a carpenter at a green building company in central Illinois.  He completed extensive training in solar array assessment, design, and installation at the Midwest Renewable Energy Association’s Solar Training Academy in 2015.  He subsequently helped create a solar energy division in the company, and assisted in writing a successful proposal to participate as a partner in a regional solar group buy program that ultimately brought more than 650KW of new solar generation to the grid.  Matt is a certified NABCEP Photovoltaic Installation Professional, which requires extensive field experience, in-depth knowledge of the National Electrical Code, passing a rigorous exam, and a solid record of successful solar installations.  He has performed numerous solar site assessments and has had a hand in designing and installing more than 25 solar energy systems, including bimodal and off-grid installations.
